While custom sneakers are a bit of a taboo subject, the late Virgil Abloh always pushed the idea of creating something new and putting your own spin on things. His “Dear Summer” Collection from earlier this year was an ode to this, to the point that he even showcased many creations on the official Off-White Instagram page as well as his own personal profile. As customs get better and better, artists like Andrew Chiou are beginning to get noticed by big players in the game, the latest one being Daniel Arsham who shared his Nike dunk low “Quartz Crystal” custom right on his socials.

A homage to Arsham’s life-size Mickey mouse plush, the “Quartz Crystal” arrives in a muted grey and purple palette which is similar to Arsham’s iconic art style. Crafted from leather, quartz crystals can be found throughout the Dunk’s upper complete with the American artist’s signature typographic style and illustrative technique.

Sandy beige flat laces give the shoe a vintage vibe, and for a pop of subtle contrast, the Nike Swooshes on the lateral and medial side panels are dipped in a forest green, finalising the design.

The Daniel Arsham x Nike dunk low “Quartz Crystal” is a custom and will never get a public release, though the contemporary artist did re-upload the shots to his IG page with the caption “@andu.c travels in the Ether of my minds eye”. let us know what you think of this creative custom, and while you’re here, here’s what an Arc’teryx x Nike dunk low would look like!
